This article accompanies the fable Life as Opera Ludwig II's grandest creation, Neuschwanstein Castle, within whose walls are many paintings depicting scenes from Wagner's operas. Ludwig himself would die in mysterious circumstances in Lake Starnberg, the same place Wagner began pre-production for Tristan & Isolde. Ludwig's death was officially ruled a suicide but strong doubts remain. ![]() |
